Top 5 Carpooling and Ridesharing Apps on Android in Africa - Q4 2021

The fourth quarter of 2021 saw significant activity in the carpooling and ridesharing app market on the Android platform in Africa. Here’s a closer look at the performance of the top five apps in this category.

inDrive. Save on city rides maintained a strong presence with weekly downloads fluctuating between 119K and 207K. Active users showed a slight upward trend, starting from around 820K in late September and reaching approximately 880K by the end of December.

Bolt: Request a Ride also performed admirably, with weekly downloads ranging from 127K to 174K. The app’s active users peaked at nearly 2.4M in late October but saw a reduction to about 1.97M by the end of the year.

DiDi Rider: Affordable rides experienced a dramatic spike in weekly downloads, particularly in the final week of December, reaching over 1M downloads. Active users steadily increased from around 271K in late September to approximately 287K by the end of December.

Uber - Request a ride had consistent weekly downloads, mostly staying between 68K and 92K. The app’s active user base remained relatively stable, fluctuating between 2.05M and 2.38M throughout the quarter.

Yassir - Ride, Eat & Shop saw weekly downloads ranging from 17K to 25K. The number of active users showed growth, moving from around 75K in late September to approximately 87K by the end of December.
